Muneyuki “Chester” Ikei
As a Teaching Artist at the Japanese American Cultural & Community Center (JACCC), Muneyuki “Chester” Ikei has been teaching traditional Japanese folk and children’s songs to seniors for the past eight years. His program, “Ukulele for Little Tokyo,” is sponsored by the JACCC and free to the public.
A gifted vocalist since childhood, Chester picked up the ‘ukulele at the age of twenty and enjoys singing and playing Japanese songs. In 2020, he made his professional debut as a guest artist in the music video “Colors In Harmony” alongside Daniel Ho, Tia Carrere, and Hālau Hula Kealiʻi o Nālani.
Chester’s graciousness and hospitality are a reflection of his illustrious forty-one year career as the General Manager of the New Otani Hotels in Los Angeles, Singapore, and Nagaoka.
